St. Cloud Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC)
Downtown is the hub of the Metro Bus system. The MTC's attractive Transit Center is where passengers make connections to other areas of the four-city (St. Cloud, Waite Park, Sauk Rapids and Sartell) area served by the MTC. An estimated 6% of Downtown employees take public transit to and from work.

Northstar Corridor Phase II

The proposed Northstar Corridor Rail Project will provide commuter rail service along a 40-mile corridor from downtown Minneapolis to Big Lake, Minnesota parallel to Trunk Highways 47 and 10. Phase I of the Northstar rail construction began in early August, 2006, in downtown Minneapolis with utility relocation work.

The Federal Transit Administration has committed approximately 50% of the funding for the project with a full funding grant agreement executed in December 2007. The 2005 bonding bill allocated $37.5 million for Northstar, while the 2006 bonding bill appropriates $60 million for the project.

St. Cloud city officials are hopeful that Phase II (from Big Lake to Rice) may be funded in the future.  If built, Phase II could be finished in 2008 and include stops in Becker, St. Cloud and Rice.
St. Cloud's city council passed a resolution unanimously supporting the Northstar corridor.

The NCDA plans to request funding for Phase II as soon as possible. This would extend the line to the greater St. Cloud area, connecting to existing bus services within the corridor and the Hiawatha light rail transit system in Minneapolis.
