Committees and Projects

There's a lot happening in Downtown St. Cloud - there are all kinds of new projects and developments happening right now. If you want to learn more about any of the committee or to join a committee, send an email or call (320) 257-8600.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
- Meetings held the 3rd Thursday of each month at 8:00 am at the DTC office.
  1. Catalyst to affect change and to take action as it relates to DTC economic development issues;
  2. Responsible for implementation of the vision, actively involved and will participate in retention and recruitment of businesses;
  3. Helps to set guidelines for storefronts and general aesthetics of Downtown;
  4. And, helps to set policies by making recommendations to the Board.
        Economic Development Activity
  • Historic restoration marketing effort
  • Recruiting High Tech companies
  • Recruiting retail companies  (Buxton study)
  • Promoting JobZ Program
  • Supporting 5th Avenue Live! redevelopment project
  • Working with brokers to sell or lease available properties
  • Expanding incentive programs for business recruitment and retention
  • Tracking public / private investments
  • Involved in implementing Cultural Plan
  • Involved in improving access to the Mississippi River
MARKETING & EVENTS - Meetings held monthly at 11:30 am (various restaurants).
  1. Works with staff in planning out the DTC annual promotions calendar of events;
  2. Formulates new ideas for seasonal and/or annual promotions;
  3. Establishes alliances with DTC members for the purpose of creating partnerships;
  4. Works with staff in developing an annual marketing campaign;
  5. Helps to set policies by making recommendations to the Board
        Marketing and Events Activity
  • Identify marketing/communications priorities that reflect the emerging competitive landscape and make recommendations to the Downtown marketing plan;
  • Plan and execute 3 annual events which include the Annual (Banquet) Celebration, the Golf Scramble and Winter Nights & Lights Parade;
  • Implement plans and strategies to market Downtown as “everything in one great place”;
  • Work with the Mn/DOT on a strategy to improve the access perception of Downtown during construction;
  • Identify funding sources to improve long term advertising and promotions;
  • Host 3 additional events in 2010, The Taste of Downtown, to celebrate the changes and all that is yet to come.
FINANCE - Meetings held monthly
  1. Responsible for establishing guidelines regarding the budget;
  2. Responsible for monitoring the budget on a monthly basis;
  3. Helps to set policies by making recommendations to the Board.
MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT - Meetings held monthly
  1. Responsible for membership recruitment and retention;
  2. Works with staff to develop membership marketing and promotional materials;
  3. Works to gather information about member concerns and ideas as they pertain to membership;
  4. Works with staff to maintain and expand membership benefits;
  5. Helps to set policies by making recommendations to the Board.
      Membership Development Activity
  • Achieve a net increase in new and retained membership
  • Develop three issue forums
  • Increase participation of businesses outside the traditional Downtown who have interest in the vitality of the Urban Core
PARKING & TRANSPORTATION - Meetings held every other month at 1:00 pm at City Hall.
  1. Key contact with City of St. Cloud staff regarding parking and transportation issues;
  2. ideas as they pertain to parking in order to enable the DTC to initiate or react to those issues;
  3. Works to understand parking and transportation issues;
  4. Work with City to expand employee and visitor parking options;
  5. Helps to set policies by making recommendations to the Board.
SPECIAL PROJECTS - Meetings held as needed.
  1. Formulates new ideas for seasonal and/or annual promotions;
  2. Works to improve the overall ambiance of Downtown (flowers, banners, corn stalks, decorating empty storefronts, etc.)

YOUNG PROFESSIONAL'S ORGANIZATION

This is a Professional’s networking organization (and a subgroup of the St. Cloud Downtown Council) for young professionals that is fun, laid back, and has a limited time and monetary commitment. It is a
great opportunity to mingle with other young professionals, build career skills, and learn about the community!

BASICS:
  • Annual membership fee: $35
  • You can join at any time and attend meetings whether a member or not.
  • You don’t have to work in Downtown to be a member.
  • Members should be between 21 and 35 years old and currently working as a young professional.
